3D Landscape Projections

Project type

3D Print

Date

June 2024

Location

Roseville, CA

A part of a larger project, these are 3D printed geographical features, primarily mountains. The 3D models were obtained using Blender's GIS plugin. Mount Rainier and Crater Lake are taken at further zoom and thus have their height scaled by 2. The rest are at natural scale.

These were printed using Overture's Rock PLA, which proved a little difficult to work with. Mostly it had difficulty with bed adhesion. To compensate I ended up putting my nozzle too close to the bed surface which caused its own problems. In doing some further research, I found that this is actually a PLA+ blend and a large part of my problems were probably due to insufficient temperature.

Nonetheless, I think the sandstone texture really came out well and future prints could be really good.
